Some Books -  try bookshops, local libraries or AbeBooks to locate or buy:
Jeff Lucas recommends:
Italian Ways - Tim Parks
A very amusing book about the Italian railways.  Highly recommended.   Any of Tim Parks non-fiction on life in Italy are highly recommended - he is very readable and entertaining.
The Italians - Hooper
Just out - not read it, but looks good.
Italy - a Cultural Guide   -    Hauser
80 or 90 very short essays on various aspects of historical Italian Art and Culture.  A great holiday book.  Out of print but secondhand available.
